Join Our Lilly Scout Match Campaign

Help us extend the impact of our STEMQuest scouting outreach program by one year to serve our Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan diverse communities. Lilly Endowment, Inc. has awarded our council $1,350,000 to impact 1,000 students per year 2023-2025. We need to ensure it doesn’t stop there. Help us extend our impact.

The Goal is 1,000 STEMQuest Participants/Year

In 2025, we will exceed our goal of 755 participants in STEMQuest

As a result of this campaign, we will extend our STEMQuest for an extra year beyond the
three-year Lilly funding.

This effort will expand our reach into the diverse youth communities who otherwise will not have access to the STEM education and provide the opportunity to receive exposure to Scouting and funding to become a Scout.

Our region’s largest leadership and character building program

Each year, thousands of girls, boys, and their families are impacted by the benefits of scouting in our region. From ages K-20, scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives. There is no other program that provides a full life cycle of age-appropriate developmental programming that wholistically -physically and mentally challenges youth to be their best. The results speak for themselves.

Now, we want to expand our reach to all youth in our diverse communities who may not have the opportunity to attend STEM camp and learn about scouting. Through our unique relationships with area public schools and E3 Robotics, we are preparing our youth for the future and building a deeper bench of potential scout recruits who we will financially support to explore their interests into scouting.

Our Next Step: To grow STEMQuest to serve 1,000 youth per year in diverse communities throughout our region.

Lilly Endowment Inc. Agrees

The Lilly Endowment has funded our council with $1,350,000 over three years (2023-2025) to expand STEMQuest to diverse communities. As part of our commitment to their funding, we need to start now to build a sustainable presence in these communities beyond 2025. The Lilly funding covers staffing, supplies, leader training/conferences, transportation, field trip costs, summer camp fees, uniforms, books, equipment, memberships, and the community engagement pieces.

After 2025, we have forecasted the need to raise approximately $300,000 per year to continue the STEMQuest outreach programming to diverse communities. We are committed to exposing more youth to learn STEM skills and become aware of the benefits of scouting.

STEMQUEST 2025

Week 1
Robotics, Ages 11-17

Our partnership with E3 Robotics will engage participants to achieve the Robotics Merit Badge, Engineering Merit Badge, and Woosh Nova Award. Participants learn how robotics are used in careers. They build and drive the base of a robot and learn basic programming to complete tasks. The six simple machines foundations are covered along with how to use recyclable materials. Additional activities include bridges, circuits, and using Littlebits for electricity flow.

Week 2-3
STEM Education, Ages 6-11

Participants experience 16 stations and 20 hours of fun and learning. 160 kids per day will rotate in teams of 10 for four days of STEM experiences. Stamps are collected in individual STEMQuest Passports for each station.

STEMQuest Passport

STEMQuest participants will have the opportunity to earn 16 stamps in their camp adventure.

Scouting Builds Positive, Sustained Character

We all know Scouting’s goal is to prepare young people for life, but does it work?

Scouting was put to the test over the course of three years, when a research team from Tufts University worked with the Boy Scouts of America’s Cradle of Liberty Council to measure the character attributes of both Scouts and non-Scouts — all with a goal of better understanding the character development of youth as it was happening.
